US Xpress cdl training course and test standards

Orientation is held twice a week at multiple locations nationwide. Training includes a road test, DOT physical exam, fitness standard test, urine test and hair test. You will also be familiar with safety procedures and operating procedures and complete the onboarding process.

The training course is three days long and once hired, company drivers will be paid $100 to $104 per day depending on your location. We will provide lodging and transportation to the training location. If you need assistance getting to the training location, the company provides Greyhound bus tickets to the orientation. If you choose to drive, US Xpress will reimburse the cost of fuel up to the price of the Greyhound bus ticket. Please keep your fuel receipt and turn it in at orientation.

About the Physical Fitness Standard Test (PST)

Tips for Success: To ensure successful completion of the DOT and the Physical Fitness Standard Test, it is strongly recommended that you limit the following foods prior to the test:

  • Coffee
  • Tea
  • Soda or any beverage with high caffeine
  • Energy drinks Consuming more than 25 mg of caffeine may increase your heart rate and blood pressure, which can adversely affect your test results.

Vision – vision must be corrected to at least 20/40 or better in both eyes Respiratory, cardiac, medical history and drug screening Hearing test with or without hearing aids

Physical Standard Test (PST)

Stand on one leg (test both legs). Three 30 second tests are required with an average of 15 seconds to pass. Climb onto platform and kneel down. Simulate entering and exiting trailer. Squat/crawl on platform. Simulate inspection/repair operations under trailer. Lift 50 pounds – floor to 35” high shelf, to 55” high shelf and back to floor. Simulate lifting cargo in and out of storage/transport vehicles (aka “roll-off boxes”) and personal items in and out of trucks. Repeated squats while lifting 20 pound boxes from floor to waist-high shelf. Simulates lifting cargo when unloading trailer. Push and pull 25 ft. and above door thresholds with 120 lbs of force. Simulates pushing a fully loaded cart/rolling container from trailer to store and back.
